Selected comments
[edit]- On the talk pages of Crime in Greater Manchester and Crime in Merseyside where these articles suggested that the police were responsible for crime in those areas. - "According to Sir Robert Peel, one function of the Police is to prevent crime, not be responsible for it ..."
- Concerning the article about James Forster (poison pen letter writer) I commented that the § Article needs better flow - "This article seems to dash around all over the place. ..."
Interests
[edit]I am a telecommunications engineer. In my professional capacity I work for an emergency service, and I am interested in emergency telephone numbers, Call Centres, Queueing theory, Erlang, as well as things New Zealand especially my home town of Sumner as well as things Maori, (though I am pakeha).
Wikipedia interests
[edit]Current interests
[edit]- I am currently interested in articles relating to:
- Crime statistics and the classification of crime.
- New Zealand legislation, including student loans, child support and child protection.
- Skills-based routing and Call centres.
- Discrete event simulation
Recent activity
[edit]- I have recently contributed to Queueing theory, Queueing model and related articles. In 2006 I undertook an undergraduate course in the subject and find Wikipedia is lacking the relevant material covered in the course.
- I also contributed to Ride theory and discovered that it was not what I thought it might be, but something completely different. The lesson is that Wikipedia is not (always) correct,(or even close to the truth, sometimes).
First Impression of Wikipedia
[edit]I found Wikipedia on 28 December 2002 (UTC) and haven't been able to stay away! It is addictive and my latest meal went cold in the oven about 4 hours ago. I think I am a Wikipediaholic already! - noted 13:14 Dec 30, 2002 (UTC)
Early Wikipedia activity

- Telemarketing - my first
- Computer telephony integration
- Interactive voice response
- Culture of New Zealand - my first major New Zealand Article
- Culture of the Maori - because my NZ article needed to refer to it.
- as at 13:30 Dec 30, 2002 (UTC)
- Almon Strowger, Strowger - Because he deserves a good biography on the net, as the internet would not have been possible without him and his invention - the automatic telephone exchange
- Dial as in telephone and because Rotary dial is only half the story.

- kiwiinapanic 12:29 Jan 20, 2003 (UTC)
- After this I discovered the contributions link identified all the articles I contributed to and gave up recording what I was doing, because I was so active editing I didn't have time to document. -- Cameron Dewe 02:39, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
- I would, now, probably characterise much of my early activities and behaviour as that of a wikignome. I did tone down my activity after a while and later moved on to participate in a number of other wikis. Also, a lack of activity here for a (long) while does not mean I have stopped being involved in Wikipedia, just that there is not have enough time in my life to to contribute meaningfully. -- Cameron Dewe 02:46, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
