mpg321
[edit]mpg123 wasnt always licensed under the GNU GPL. It had some other more restrictive license in the past. As a result, some people made mpg321 which was a clone of mpg123 but under the GNU GPL. So alot of people switched over to mpg321 as it was more free. But now mpg123 is under the GNU GPL too. I think!
mpg321 is actually a console frontend for libMAD, an MPEG Audio decoding library of questionable quality. I prefer to use the MP3 input plugin that comes with the Audacious Media Player. It's decoding core is called mpg123-clone and is essentially a derivative of the most recent mpg123 source code which has been adapted with audio quality and patent avoidance in mind. --Ssokolow 05:12, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
- Errr, I wouldn't say MAD is of questionable quality. '~' --Kjoonlee 16:37, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
- I've mentioned mpg321 in the article now. Someone with better wording skillz might want to improve it. 2601:646:4000:21BF:2C2:C6FF:FE3A:C302 (talk) 04:11, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
