Nintendo Power isn't included in the table under the reception section

[edit]

Is there a reason Nintendo Power isn't included in the table under the reception section? MarioGalaxy2433g5 (talk) 23:00, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They’re both made by Nintendo, so Nintendo Power probably can’t be a reliable source for a review of New Super Mario Bros. — NRen2k5(TALK), 05:05, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Normally, it would be (it has its own editorial staff et al), but, especially for a game published by Nintendo, one needs to be wary in what is being referenced from NP. For instance, it wouldn't be a good idea to reference a review from NP in the Reception section. Content for gameplay, plot, or development would be OK. MuZemike 05:36, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Should we use this image?

[edit]

IIRC, it would be one less fair use image needed, which would improve the status of the article, and certainly isn't an image of diminished quality. - A Link to the Past (talk) 02:55, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The image is still fair use and copyright violation. Check out the copyvio tag on the image. Box art and such is not fair use and cannot be accepted by commons' policies. It will probably be deleted in no time. The Prince (talk) 14:13, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sequel

[edit]

There has been some talk about a possible sequel to the game, if i find the article again i'll post it here —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.153.12.82 (talk) 20:18, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I saw a screenshot in theOfficial Nintendo Magazine but they didn't talk about it Ultamatecharizard (talk) 18:53, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First Original Mario Platformer since Mario Land 2?

[edit]

What about Mario vs. Donkey Kong?

- tSR - Nth Man (talk) 00:28, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He has a point actually. That's a side scroller. – J U M P G U R U ask㋐㋜㋗ 17:30, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The reference says that it's the first "2D platform game" so I've changed it to that. Gary King (talk) 18:40, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn’t solve anything. It might even make it worse. MvDK is a side-scroller in limited ways, but it is DEFINITELY a 2D platform game. --WikidSmaht (talk) 20:32, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What about SMW2: YI?

Stop kidding yourselves guys, MvDK definitely, and SM2: YI definitely counts. So what if it doesn't sound as impressive, it's better than flat out lying, and by saying that it is the "fist side-scrolling game starring Mario" we ARE lying. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.190.89.236 (talk) 20:48, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's definitely not the "first side-scrolling mario game" since mario land 2, but MvDK is a Game boy spinoff in the Mario Vs. Donkey Kong series. Many people consider it a sequel to DK94 on the Gameboy, which isn't a (mainline) mario game. Yoshi's island is a little more difficult since it's the first game of the Yoshi series, but is sometimes considered as a mario game.
I think the best way to say it is "first traditional mario game since ML2" or "First mainline mario game since __"
It depends on whether you think Yoshi's Island is a mainline mario game or not. Shrgok (talk) 01:43, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

LOLENGLISH

[edit]

"making Bowser become a skeleton"

Awesome standards there Wiki. Especially considering the hypocrisy that has lead me to post this section again. The entire plot section is written very weakly. I can't be the only one who noticed this. 199.227.86.10 (talk) 17:52, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to change it if you think it needs improvement. That particular text that you quoted was actually in the article for only about a week, so I guess no one caught it. Gary King (talk) 18:45, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I like you. :3 But yeah, I would be Bold and change it, but my own English sucks just as bad. So I figured to do the next best thing and bring it to attention. Which someone sure did rather dramatically, ha. 199.227.86.10 (talk) 21:14, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You should have done that before, instead of setting me up like that! MuZemike 07:51, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stupid comment

[edit]

Someone posted "[Mario Bros is beyond awsome , totaly cool and lets not forget one of the coolest games ever.]" in the first paragraph - I removed it, but the fact that it got a high quality rating is kind of disturbing.--Veg20xx (talk) 07:38, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That is a classic example of vandalism, regardless of how benign it is. It has been reverted. MuZemike 07:46, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What's "a high quality rating" supposed to mean? Haipa Doragon (talkcontributions) 16:19, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Poor Choice of Words

[edit]

the first paragraph doesn't make any sense.

"The game was released in North America and Japan in May 2006......first game to be a part of the main Mario series of video games since Super Mario Galaxy in 2008.

how can something before 2008 be after 2008?

i would re-edit this myself but i am not that familiar with the topic

--~5349U11~ 08:34, 17 May 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 5349U11 (talkcontribs)

Anonymous user 67.177.64.123 changed the game and year, but did not change the tense of the words before them. I changed it back to Sunshine for now, but the user may have a point: are the Sunshines part of the main Mario series, or just a spin-off group separate from Galaxy (and, for that matter, is Galaxy itself canon)? --an odd name 08:58, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Mario (series), section "Main series", lists Sunshine and Galaxy, so I'd suggest that 67.177.64.123 keep it as before unless they can prove otherwise through some source. :) --an odd name 09:07, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have not seen any reliable sources ever question whether Sunshine or Galaxy are part of the main series. IMO is highly unlikely that they are spinoffs.--76.65.140.218 (talk) 18:40, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

this game is from nintendo 2006 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.244.80.12 (talk) 16:42, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

POV

[edit]

Is "leaving a grotesque skeleton" point of view? I thought the skeleton was adorable!

Plot section

[edit]

Why does the article go into detail of the first boss battle but not world 2,3,4,5,6,or 7?129.139.1.68 (talk) 19:13, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I took the librety of fixing it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.238.255.62 (talk) 19:51, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FAR concerns

[edit]

I'm afraid this article is going to need an FAR soon. Given how popular this game was, I'm surprised by how short this article is. The "sequels" section is unsourced, and there's no discussion of this game's legacy. To my understanding, it's also missing a lot of information about development; only the second and fourth paragraphs are really about development, the rest are either about announcements/release and gameplay changes. Scripulous Fingore hoax

[edit]

There has been a hoax regarding an enemy that does not exist in the game named Scripulous Fingore. Can you add it to the page?--24.44.76.88 (talk) 17:41, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a reliable source for this that indicates its notability?--Megaman en m (talk) 23:21, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have a Polygon page about this hoax. https://www.polygon.com/22407992/mario-nintendo-scripulous-fingore-fake-memes-jokes --24.44.76.88 (talk) 14:43, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
New Super Mario Bros. isn't even mentioned in that article though, why would it fit here? I'm not sure if this information could fit anywhere on Wikipedia actually, it seems far too niche and not notable enough. Maybe if someone made an article about urban myths in Mario games? That would be completely unprecedented as far as I know and wouldn't make the cut probably.--Megaman en m (talk) 03:48, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Tree

[edit]

"When Mario lands on top of a tree, it teeters over and eventually falls if he is stationary for too long."

I don't remember a tree platform in the game. Searching in the web, it seems like it was a beta scrapped element ([1]) that was not present in the actual game. Redjedi23 (talk) 15:54, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
