Article Licensing
[edit]Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)
Instrumental songs in song lists
[edit]I noticed that you re-added the song "New Orleans Instrumental No.1" by R.E.M. to the List of songs whose title includes geographical names. I have once again removed it, as discussed in my December 18, 2004 update of "Major article reorganization" on the talk page, because it has been the general practice of these song lists (at least the ones I've been monitoring) to not include instrumental songs, on the basis that there is no singing. You may not agree with this; I myself am not sure this is necessarily the best practice. However, it is the accepted practice. If you wish to bring it up as a policy that should be changed, please post a new topic to the talk page so it can be discussed further by the users of this list. Thank you for your cooperation. — Jeff Q 07:09, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Internet vs. internet
[edit]Excellent work on the James Bond 21 article earlier today. However, Internet is supposed to be capitalized, especially when used in the context of "the Internet" since there is only one. If you check the Internet article, there is a rationale given for this in the introduction (it's also capitalized in the Oxford dictionary). Cheers! 23skidoo 18:02, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)
What's with all the articles on these Welsh rocks? Do they have any kind of significance? Roughly how large are they? Everyking 13:37, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Well, I don't have any problem with the articles provided there is something to actually say about these rocks, besides where they are and the fact that they are rocks. If not, it would probably be better to merge them into one article, maybe in a list format. Everyking 14:22, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC)

C&C "Mammoth Tank" page
[edit]I dont know if you´re the original creator of the article, so maybe I am not asking at the right place, but does that long story fall under canon or fanon? If it´s the latter, maybe it should be placed under a subcategory of "Attempts to link the storylines in the Tiberian and Red Alert game series"
Thank you for your contribution at Pune.

Italics on poker players' nicknames[edit]Hi there, I noticed that you removed the italics from "Action" in Dan Harrington's entry. I'm trying to be consistant amongst the articles. Amongst the articles that do have italicised nicknames are: Greg Raymer, Marcel Lüske, John Cernuto, Dave Colclough, Antonio Esfandiari, Paul Darden, Hoyt Corkins, Paul Clark, Todd Brunson, Farzad Bonyadi, Jim Meehan, Paul Magriel, Tony Ma, Chip Jett, Kenna James, Bobby Hoff, John Hennigan, Phil Gordon, David Pham, Adam Richardson, Nick Schulman, Isabelle Mercier, Evelyn Ng, Martin De Knijff, Lucy Rokach, Willie Tann, Simon Trumper, Steve Vladar, Ben Roberts, Xuyen Pham, John Kabbaj, Gary Jones, Malcolm Harwood, Peter Evans, Harry Demetriou, Peter Costa, Carlo Citrone, Neil Channing, Garry Bush, Tony Bloom and Bruce Atkinson. In other words, there are far more names that are italicised than there are that are not. Why exactly do you feel they should not be italicised? In order to be consistant across all the articles, it's far more work to de-italicise than to italicise. I recently made major changes to the article in an effort to move it to NPOV. The goal is to get the article to the point that the POV and cleanup templates can be removed. Thanks, --jrcagle 20:12, 3 May 2006 (UTC) Wikidates[edit]Hi there. I noticed you amended a date on The Idiot's Lantern from 27 May to May 27. The reason for wikilinking the date is so that user preferences (as set in the my preferences menu) take effect. If you prefer to see the date in a particular format you can set it in your preferences. There is no standard format on Wikipedia beyond ensuring that date-month pairings are wikified in order for these preferences to work. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)#Dates containing a month and a day for more info. When you uploaded Image:Patio medium.JPG, you did not specify complete source and copyright information. Another user subsequently tagged it with GFDL-presumed and, for some time, it has existed on Wikipedia under the assumption that you created the image and you agreed to license it under the GFDL. This assumption, however well-meaning, is not legally sufficient and the tag is being phased out. Images using it are being deleted. This image has been tagged for deletion and will be deleted in one week if adequate copyright information is not provided. If you, personally, are the author of this content, meaning that you took the photograph yourself or you created the chart yourself (and it does not use any clipart that you did not create), please retag the image with a free image copyright tag that correctly describes your licensing intentions, usually GFDL-self or PD-self. Please also make sure if you have not already done so that you write a good description of what the image depicts, when you took the photo, and other important details. This will allow Wikipedia to continue using the image. If you did not create the image or if it is derived from the copyrighted works of others, please keep in mind that most images on the internet are copyrighted and are not suitable for use on Wikipedia. Wikipedia respects the copyrights of others and does not use images unless we know that they have been freely licensed. Any creative work is automatically copyrighted, even if it lacks a copyright notice. Unless the copyright holder has specifically disclaimed their rights to the image and released it under the GFDL or another compatible license, we cannot use it. If you did not create the image, and cannot make the image compliant with Wikipedia:Non-free content, simply do nothing and it will be deleted in a week. All other non-free images must follow these rules. Please feel free to contact me on my talk page or leave a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions with any questions you may have. Thank you. A tag has been placed on EGB (DJ) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you.
