[edit]Mel Lastman would not be considered the "longest serving mayor" by any measurement, because of the simple fact that the former City of North York and the current City of Toronto are two different entities, even though North York is now a part of the amalgamated city. If we were to use this logic to determine longest serving mayor (which is such an ambiguous description and is not particularly useful anyway), then Hazel McCallion would get that title, as she was Mayor of Streetsville, Ontario from 1970 until 1973, before she became Mayor of the merged City of Mississauga, Ontario, of which Streetsville is a part. The Guiness Book of World Records recognizes Lastman as longest-serving for his North York stint.. Lastman was mayor of North York from 1972 to 1997 - 25 years, Macallian has been mayor of Mississauga for 23 years this November. She is running for re-election so if she wins and serves at least 2/3 of her term she'll beat Lastman's record. Homey 06:47, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
And also if she manages not to die until 2008, the woman is 85 already, but she is going strong. --142.150.45.92 20:39, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
I'd have been shocked if Lastman's relatively modest 31 years combined service was indeed the longest in the world. And I don't think that it is. Just a very quick WP search turns up John Land, the incumbent mayor of Apopka, Florida who has served since 1971.[1] Land only claims to be the longest serving in Florida so I assume that there are others out there with longer service. What's the source on the Lastman claim? --JGGardiner 03:01, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
I've run a check of the GBoWW and see nothing about Lastman, or any Mayors. therefore, I'm removing this until someone can provide a link. 70.30.214.26 16:24, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
Kensington Days
[edit]Mel grew up in Kensington market, which used to be a Jewish community in Toronto. There is no mention of Mel's upbringing, and also no mention of his family much beyond a brief mention of his son's ressurection of "Bad Boy Furniture" and Mel's affair. Perhaps someone could add more of this info? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mista-X (talk • contribs) 21:37, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
Election campaigns
[edit]Surely Lastman's 1997 victory against Hall merits more attention than his 2000 victory against a near-fringe candidate.Homey 06:44, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Badboy Furniture Bankruptcy
[edit]Having failed to file the necessary documents with the court, the "company effectively made an assignment of bankruptcy, meaning Bad Boy has to turn over its assets and property to a trustee in order to make a distribution to the creditors." https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/it-s-official-bad-boy-furniture-is-bankrupt-1.6741144 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.235.193.91 (talk) 15:56, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
